Why I’m testing AI search on my own name

I’ve been in AI search since it basically started. This site is where I actually do it, starting with my own name.

Key takeaways

  • This site is my live test. I’m tracking how my own name and topics show up in AI search.
  • I change one thing at a time and report what moves, including what doesn’t.
  • I work at Searchable and use it to track this. I’ll always say when.

I’ve been in AI search since it basically started. I was on the founding team at Scrunch (acquired by Sitecore earlier this year), and now I’m on the founding US team at Searchable, an AI search visibility platform.

So most of my day is talking to marketers and agencies about one thing: how do you get your brand to show up when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Claude?

I talk about it all day. I’d never actually done it for myself.

What got me thinking about this

When I was at Scrunch, we’d look at which sources AI tools were citing in our category. One that kept coming up was a personal blog from a competitor’s head of marketing. One person, writing about the space, showing up in the answers over and over (and pulling their company into those answers with them).

Honestly it was frustrating. It also proved something. A real person who writes consistently about one topic gets cited.

What I’m doing here

This site is the experiment. I’m tracking my own AI search visibility (my name, plus a set of AI search questions I want to show up for) and changing one thing at a time to see what actually moves.

I’m also using it to learn GA4 and Search Console from the ground up. I sell to marketers, so I want to wear the marketing hat for real and not just talk about it.

Full disclosure: I work at Searchable, and I’ll be using it to track this. I’ll always say when I am.

What you’ll get

Tool tests. Questions buyers ask me on calls (no names). And the results of every experiment, including the ones where nothing happens.

It’s a brand new domain, so this will start slow. New sites usually take a few months before they show up much. That’s part of the test too!

If you work in marketing or run an agency and want to follow along, subscribe below. And if there’s something you want me to test, send it my way on LinkedIn or X.
